01

Project Overview

The Sencha Store, operated by Idera, Inc., sells software licenses and subscriptions through WooCommerce. Selling this way required custom purchase rules, a custom pricing table, and subscription renewal logic beyond standard WooCommerce functionality.

Purchases also needed to carry metadata through to Stripe for payment, connect to SFDC for license integration, and calculate tax through AvaTax. SiGa Systems was engaged, starting around February 2022, to build this functionality.

SiGa implemented all of this custom functionality using WordPress and WooCommerce hooks rather than relying on default plugin behavior. The completed work was packaged into a WordPress child theme and deployed in April 2025.

Key Results

Custom Purchase Rules

Purchase rules specific to Sencha's licensing and subscription model were built on top of WooCommerce's standard purchase flow, replacing default behavior that didn't fit.

Integrated Payment, License, and Tax Workflows

Stripe, SFDC, and AvaTax were connected directly into the purchase flow, handling payment, license integration, and tax calculation within a single checkout process.

Subscription Renewal Logic

Discounts applied at initial purchase are removed on renewal, ensuring subscription pricing reflects the documented renewal terms rather than the initial purchase price.

Centralized Custom Functionality

All custom purchase, pricing, and integration logic was packaged into a single WordPress child theme, rather than distributed across separate, harder-to-maintain customizations.

03

The Challenge

Custom Purchase Rules

Sencha’s licensing and subscription model didn’t map onto a standard WooCommerce purchase flow, so rules specific to how licenses and subscriptions are sold had to be built.

Custom Pricing Requirements

Pricing needed to reflect Sencha’s license and subscription structure, which required a custom pricing table rather than WooCommerce’s default product pricing display.

Subscription Renewal Discounts

Discounts applied to an initial purchase needed to be removed on renewal, rather than continuing indefinitely through WooCommerce Subscriptions’ default renewal behavior.

Payment, License, and Tax Integration

Purchases needed to carry the right metadata to Stripe, connect to SFDC for license integration, and calculate tax correctly through AvaTax within the same flow.

Finding Appropriate WooCommerce Hooks

Some of the hooks needed for this custom behavior weren’t available in the relevant plugin’s documentation, requiring the integration points to be found another way.

05

Our Approach

01

WordPress and WooCommerce Foundation

SiGa built the required custom functionality on top of WordPress, WooCommerce, and WooCommerce Subscriptions, rather than replacing the underlying platform the store already ran on.

02

Custom Code Through WordPress Hooks

All required functionality was implemented using custom code hooked into WordPress and WooCommerce’s own hook system, rather than relying on default plugin behavior alone.

03

Integrated Payment, License, and Tax Systems

Stripe, SFDC, and AvaTax were connected directly into the same purchase flow, so payment, license integration, and tax calculation all run together.

04

Single Child Theme

The resulting custom functionality was packaged into a WordPress child theme, consolidating the store’s customizations in one place rather than scattering them across separate files.

06

How the Store Purchase Flow Works

01Product or Subscription Selection

A customer selects a Sencha license or subscription to purchase.

Purchase rules specific to Sencha’s licensing model are applied to the order.

The custom pricing table and renewal logic determine the final price.

Stripe processes the payment, carrying the metadata the transaction requires.

AvaTax calculates the applicable tax on the completed purchase.

SFDC handles license integration tied to the completed purchase.

07

Key Features

Custom Purchase Rules

Purchase rules specific to how Sencha's licenses and subscriptions are sold, built on top of WooCommerce's standard purchase flow.

Stripe Integration & Metadata

Stripe handles payment processing, with the transaction metadata the Sencha Store requires carried through as part of the integration.

SFDC & AvaTax Integration

Completed purchases connect to SFDC for license integration, while AvaTax calculates tax as part of the same checkout flow.

Pricing & Renewal Logic

Discounts are removed on renewal, and a custom pricing table presents Sencha's license and subscription tiers accurately.

08

Technical Challenge

Finding Appropriate Hooks

Some of the hooks needed for the required customization weren’t documented, so SiGa examined the plugin’s files directly to identify them.

Implementing Around Identified Hooks

Once the correct hooks were identified, custom PHP and JavaScript functionality was built around those specific integration points.

Results & Impact

Custom Store Functionality

The store’s purchase rules and pricing table reflect Sencha’s actual licensing and subscription structure instead of WooCommerce’s generic defaults.

Integrated Store Workflows

Stripe, AvaTax, and SFDC operate within the same purchase flow, connecting payment processing, tax calculation, and license integration into one process.

Subscription Renewal Handling

Discounts applied to an initial purchase are removed on renewal, addressing the documented requirement for how Sencha’s subscriptions are priced at renewal.

Completed Child Theme Implementation

All custom functionality was packaged into a WordPress child theme, fulfilling the documented client requirements for the completed project.

11

Conclusion

The Sencha Store required custom WooCommerce functionality to match how Idera, Inc. actually sells Sencha’s software licenses and subscriptions, including purchase rules, pricing, renewal discount handling, and integrations with Stripe, SFDC, and AvaTax.

SiGa implemented this functionality through custom code hooked into WordPress and WooCommerce, including hooks that had to be located directly in the plugin’s files, and packaged the result into a WordPress child theme.

The completed implementation fulfilled the documented requirements for the Sencha Store and was deployed in April 2025.
