Project Overview

A healthcare client running Utilization Management (UM) and Care Management (CM) operations was working with healthcare data spread across multiple medical record systems. That fragmentation made it hard to get a complete view of a case, pushed staff toward manual workflows to fill the gaps, and made proactive care coordination difficult since the information needed to act early wasn’t reliably in one place. It also meant the client depended heavily on additional IT resources just to keep things running.

SiGa Systems was engaged to build a unified platform that brings this data together in one secure, compliant system. The platform needed to support multiple case types (Appeals, UM, CM, and Assessments), give clients and providers appropriately scoped access, and be flexible enough to evolve through configuration as requirements changed.

02

Key Results

Unified Healthcare Data

Data from multiple medical record systems was consolidated into a single platform instead of staying split across separate sources.

Faster Workflows, Reduced Manual Effort

Automating core processes reduced the manual work the fragmented system previously required.

Proactive Care Coordination

Real-time analytics and dashboards gave staff the visibility to coordinate care proactively instead of reactively.

Configuration-Driven Scalability

A metadata-driven architecture let the platform deploy changes and update the UI without new code, reducing reliance on additional IT resources.

03

The Challenge

Fragmented healthcare data

Healthcare data was distributed across multiple medical record systems, with no single place to see a complete picture of a case.

Manual, inefficient workflows

That fragmentation pushed staff toward manual processes to compensate, making core workflows less efficient.

Difficult proactive care coordination

Without a unified view of the data, coordinating care proactively, rather than reacting after the fact, was harder than it needed to be.

Multiple case types with different requirements

The platform needed to support several distinct case types (Appeals, Utilization Management, Care Management, and Assessments), each with its own workflow, inside one coherent system.

IT overhead and the need to stay adaptable

Beyond the technical build itself, the client needed a solution that wouldn’t keep pulling in additional IT resources every time something needed to change.

04

Our Approach

Data Integration

Data Integration

SiGa built secure APIs to ingest and normalize healthcare data, giving the platform a unified data foundation in place of scattered records.

Compliance & Security

Compliance & Security

The platform was built with encryption, granular access control, and audit logging, reflecting the sensitivity of the data it was consolidating.

Automation

Automation

Configurable workflows and rule-based engines were used to streamline core processes, reducing the manual work that fragmented data had previously required.

Metadata-Driven Scalability

SiGa designed a metadata-driven architecture that supports rapid deployment and dynamic UI updates without additional coding, so the platform could adapt to new requirements without adding to the client’s IT overhead.

05

How the Platform Works

Healthcare data sources

01

Data originates across the client’s multiple medical record systems.

Secure API ingestion

02

SiGa’s secure APIs bring that data into the platform.

Data normalization

03

Ingested data is normalized into a consistent, unified format.

Configurable workflows & rule-based processing

04

Configurable workflows and rule-based engines streamline core processes across the platform.

Case management

05

Processed data feeds into the platform’s case management capabilities, covering Appeals, Utilization Management, Care Management, and Assessments.

Analytics & dashboards

06

Real-time analytics and dashboards surface the resulting data.

Care coordination

07

That visibility supports proactive, rather than reactive, care coordination.

06

Key Features

Multi-Case Management

The platform supports Appeals, Utilization Management, Care Management, and Assessments within a unified system.

Role-Based Access and Dual Login

Separate, tailored login paths for clients and providers give each group access scoped to their role, supporting the platform’s broader access-control approach.

Auto-Save and Data Persistence

The platform includes auto-save built on a DB-first Entity Framework 6 design to support data persistence during case management workflows.

Mobile Offline Support

The platform supports offline use with synchronization, allowing data to remain available when connectivity is limited, alongside smart dashboards.

Modular Architecture

The platform uses a modular architecture comprising the Management Portal and Next Generation components.

07

Technical Challenge

Managing a Dynamic Healthcare Platform

The platform needed to support a dynamic interface, multiple case types, auto-save, role-based access, and a DB-first Entity Framework 6 architecture.

Maintaining Data Integrity Across Case Types

Appeals, Utilization Management, Care Management, and Assessments had different requirements, while data handling needed to remain consistent across the platform.

Results & Impact

Unified Healthcare Data

Data from multiple medical record systems was consolidated into a single platform.

Reduced Manual Effort

Configurable workflows and rule-based processing reduced manual work across core processes.

Proactive Care Coordination

Real-time analytics and dashboards support proactive care coordination.

Lower IT Overhead

Configuration-driven deployment reduced the need for additional IT resources.

Scalable Platform

The metadata-driven architecture supports ongoing changes and scalability without additional coding.

10

Conclusion

Fragmented healthcare data across multiple systems had pushed this client toward manual workflows, made proactive care coordination difficult, and kept IT overhead high just to hold things together. SiGa built a unified, configurable platform that consolidates that data, automates the workflows built around it, and supports multiple case types across Appeals, Utilization Management, Care Management, and Assessments, with the metadata-driven flexibility to keep evolving without adding to the client’s IT burden. The project demonstrates how SiGa Systems can bring fragmented healthcare data, configurable workflows, case management, and analytics into a unified platform for Utilization and Care Management operations.
