Project Overview

Idera, Inc.’s Froala product, a WYSIWYG HTML editor, is purchased through a WooCommerce-based store. The store required custom behavior to support its software licensing requirements, including subscription renewal discount logic, transaction metadata for Stripe, license integration with SFDC, and tax calculations through AvaTax.

SiGa Systems was engaged, beginning around March 2022, to build the custom functionality the Froala store needed on top of WooCommerce. This included purchase rules specific to how Froala licenses are sold, a custom pricing table, subscription renewal discount rules, Stripe integration with the required transaction metadata, SFDC license integration, AvaTax tax calculations, and abandoned cart recovery.

SiGa implemented this store-specific behavior through custom PHP and JavaScript code using WordPress and WooCommerce hooks. The custom features were packaged into a WordPress child theme, with the engagement continuing through May 2025.

Custom discount rules were implemented for subscription renewals.

Centralized Custom Functionality

The custom features and functionality were implemented within a single WordPress child theme.

03

The Challenge

Custom Purchase Rules

The Froala Store required purchase rules specific to how its licenses are sold, which needed to be implemented within the WooCommerce purchase flow.

Custom Pricing

The project required a custom pricing table to support the store’s licensing and pricing requirements.

Subscription Renewal Discount Rules

Subscription renewals required specific discount behavior that needed to be implemented as part of the store’s custom functionality.

Payment, License, and Tax Integration

The store required Stripe integration with transaction metadata, SFDC license integration, and AvaTax tax calculations as part of its required functionality.

Abandoned Cart Recovery

The project also included functionality for recovering abandoned carts.

Finding Appropriate Plugin Hooks

Some of the hooks required for the custom functionality were not available in the relevant plugin documentation. The appropriate hooks therefore had to be identified by exploring the plugin files.

04

Our Approach

SiGa built the required functionality on top of WordPress, WooCommerce, and WooCommerce Subscriptions.

Custom PHP and JavaScript code was connected through WordPress and WooCommerce hooks to implement the store-specific purchase, pricing, and subscription behavior. Stripe, SFDC, and AvaTax were integrated as required by the project, while the custom features were organized within a WordPress child theme.

05

How the Store Works

01Customer purchase

A customer begins a purchase through the Froala WooCommerce store.

Custom purchase rules specific to the store are applied.

Custom pricing and subscription rules, including renewal discount logic, are applied where relevant.

Stripe handles payment processing with the required transaction metadata.

AvaTax handles the required tax calculations.

SFDC handles the documented license integration.

The purchase process continues through WooCommerce.
